A woman is facing charges after investigators reported that she placed a coin in a meat package that was set to go out for retail consumption in New York.
Long Island resident Karen Palacios Gutierrez, age 38, of Hempstead, was arrested at about 4:20 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 26, following an incident at the Ava Companies food packaging company, located in Hicksville at 383 West John St., the Nassau County Police Department reported.
Investigators determined that Gutierrez put a coin into a package while working as a meatpacker at about 10 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 25, police said.

A Long Island man has won a "$1,000 A Week For Life" New York Lottery prize.
Nassau County resident Conroy Jarman, of Hempstead, claimed the top prize from the scratch-off game, according to an announcement from New York Lottery on Friday, April 29.
NY Lottery said Jarman chose to receive his prize as a single, lump-sum payment of $518,826 after required withholdings.
The ticket was purchased at Quick Pick Deli, which is located at 416 Uniondale Ave. in Uniondale, the lottery said.

An indictment was unsealed on Thursday, Feb. 17 charging Queens resident Jia Liu, age 26, a member of the US Marine Corps Reserve, and Nassau County resident Steven Rodriguez, age 27, of Long Beach, a nurse at a clinic in Hempstead, for their roles in the scheme.

A woman from the region has been arrested for allegedly stabbing a Long Island man to death.
Dutchess County resident Veronica Hardwick, age 51, Poughkeepsie, was arrested on Thursday, Dec. 9 for the stabbing which took place on Thursday, Nov. 25 in Hempstead.
According to Nassau County Police detectives, officers responded to 600 Fulton Avenue for a report of a man that had been stabbed in the chest.
The victim, Richard Reshard, age 35, of Hempstead, was transported to a local hospital and pronounced dead on Thursday, by a hospital physician.

The identity has been released for the store manager killed by a worker in a shooting that injured two others at a supermarket on Long Island.
The suspect, Gabriel DeWitt Wilson, age 31, of Hempstead, pleaded not guilty on Wednesday, April 21, just 24 hours after the incident took place at the Stop & Shop in West Hempstead on Tuesday, April 20.
