HARRISON, N.Y. Harrison Lacrosse Head Coach Jay Rabinowitz is halfway through his first year on the job. So far, the Huskies are 3-5.
But the record does not tell the entire tale. Several of the Huskies losses have been by one or two goals, including their 10-8 loss at Fox Lane on Tuesday. Rabinowitz said Tuesdays game was typical for this season, in which the Huskies have been right there in most games but unable to claim the victory.
Weve been playing teams tough all season, Rabinowitz said. I thought we got some bad penalties at the end (of todays game) that I thought stopped us from winning this game. I think definitely (were a) better team personnel wise as far as man for man. I feel like were definitely a better team than this.
Coming into the season, Rabinowitz thought that the teams youth would be its greatest problem. The Huskies have 10 sophomores, one freshman and one eighth-grader, but just four juniors and two seniors. That youth, he said, has led to some lapses on the field.
The youth is definitely going to play a part, Rabinowitz said. Its just making better decisions. Were expecting a lot from these guys.
But the youth has not been a total detriment. Jake Marino, the standout sophomore for the Huskies, is seventh in Section 1 in goals. He had more two goals and an assist on Tuesday against Fox Lane.
Rabinowitz said the Huskies will return 15 players from the starting rotation next season. He said the future will be something to look forward to for Harrison.
There are 10 sophomores that touch the field. We are going to learn, Rabinowitz said. Well be a program to definitely be reckoned with in the next couple of years.
