Manhattanville College Cancels Classes in Harrison

HARRISON, N.Y. - Hurricane Irene continued to affect Harrison on Saturday when Manhattanville College announced the cancellation of weekend orientation activities and Monday classes.

All move in and welcome programs were postponed until further notice and Monday classes were called off in anticipation of Hurricane Irene's destruction.

Manhattanville President Jon C. Strauss said in a statement that formal move in activities and programs will commence Monday as long as the weather permits. Students are encouraged to register on the college's campus alert system by clicking here.

Residence Life will assist families who cannot change travel plans upon their arrival this weekend, but they must contact college safety by calling (914) 323-7233.

"We encourage students and their families to make their best judgment in finalizing their travel plans," Strauss said.

For more information, check the college's website.

The storm forced Purchase College on Thursday to cancel its Monday start for all classes and activities.

Hurricane Irene was expected to hit the New York metropolitan area Saturday night and be at its worst between Saturday and Sunday evenings. A hurricane watch was put into effect in Westchester on Friday and President Barack Obama declared a state of emergency in New York.
