The fair is made possible as a result of a grant received by the Harrison Educational Foundation. The science and technology projects displayed were judged using a specific rubric given to the students by LMK and Harrison High School teachers, as well as Harrison High School science research students. The students decide to participate in this event because they wanted to challenge themselves by investigating a topic of interest to them. They completed this independent project during the course of three months.
Many students presented their scientific research and engineering designs and placed, but some of the students who won first place include:
- Izabela Szymura – What are the pH levels of everyday fruits? Teacher: Susan Flynn.
- Charlie Sheffield – Roller Coaster Marbles: What slope on a ramp is needed to complete a loop? Teacher: Laura Sardilli.
- James McClean – What is the effect of vinegar on milk? Teacher: Bruce Kinisky.
- Cameron McClean – How does the height of a hovercraft affect its speed? Teacher: Bruce Kinisky.
- Raffaele Tammaro – Will meditation affect blood pressure or sleep? Teacher: Bruce Kinisky.
- Technology presenters Christian Spadini – 6th Grade – Building an Electrical Generator.
