HARRISON, N.Y. -- Sophomores Adam Eljamal, Raffi Piliero and Jack Wilson along with junior Evan Burger of Harrison High School’s debate team closed-out the semifinals to take the championship in a four-way tie at the 27th annual Dr. Robert J. Kaiser Debate Invitational at Monticello High School on Sunday, Oct. 12.
Sophomores Kate Ryan reached the quarterfinals (top 8) and Matt Zinman and Madeline Rawson reached partial octofinals (top 12) before each was coached over by a teammate. Junior Amr El-Azizi also reached partial octofinals, where he was eliminated on a close 2-1 decision.
Several Harrison debaters won speaker awards:
Matt Zinman – 10th
Kate Ryan – 8th
Evan Burger – 7th
Madeline Rawson – 4th
Raffi Piliero – 2nd
Adam Eljamal – Top Speaker In addition to the award winners, sophomore Sammi O’Reillu had a winning record, just missing clearing on speaker points, and sophomore Emma Abramson and Isabella Tosto competed for the first time this season.
