DiLorenzo Picked As Harrison Board of Education President

HARRISON, N.Y. – Board of Education President Dennis DiLorenzo was chosen for that position once again for the 2012-13 school year, while colleague Abby Mendelsohn was picked as vice president of the board.

“I’m honored that the board chose me to serve as president for another year,” DiLorenzo said. “I hope we can continue the good work we have been doing. It’s been a very challenging year with the tax cap, and we are trying to maintain programming. I think that the board has a lot of work to do to advocate for public schools.”

DiLorenzo was sworn onto the board once again, along with Trustee Joan Tiburzi. Both were re-elected in May in uncontested elections. Christine Beitler was again appointed the district clerk, and Norah McAvoy will remain the district’s treasurer.

The Harrison Board of Education also apporved a trip for the Harrison High School varsity girls soccer team to participate in a three-way scrimmage at Shaker High School in Latham, N.Y. The team will travel there on Aug. 28 and return the following day.

The board accepted four donations from residents for the district’s music department. Ruth Singer donated a Palatino violin, a Cecilio violin, a Gammon snare drum kit and a Jean Baptiste flute. Resident Linda Grant donated a violin as well. Resident Michael Ellis donated $40 toward the high school marching band’s trip to Pearl Harbor in December, and resident Theresa Paul donated $50.
