10 Harrison Teachers Accept Retirement Incentive

HARRISON, N.Y. – Ten teachers in the Harrison Central School District have accepted a retirement incentive, Assistant Superintendent for Business Robert Salierno said Wednesday.

Salierno said the retiring teachers will be paid 15 percent of their annual salaries as a lump sum in August. He said the incentive was extended to give teachers more time to decide whether to accept it.

To be eligible with full complementary sick days, Salierno said, a teacher had to work in the district for 28 or more years. Superintendent Louis Wool said the district does not know whether any more teachers will accept the retirement incentive, but if they do it will help the district reduce expenditures for next year.

Also at Wednesday's Board of Education meeting:

• The board approved adopting the 2012-13 school budget, which was approved by voters on Tuesday.

• The board declared itself the lead agency for capital improvements at several schools in the district. At Harrison High School improvements will be made to the science lab, cafeteria and concession stand, and flooring will be replaced. Improvements at Louis M. Klein Middle School include flooring replacement. Harrison Avenue School will get windows and flooring replaced, while flooring will be redone at Parsons Memorial School, Samuel J. Preston Elementary School and Purchase Elementary.

• The board approved an agreement with Sprint Solutions to maintain at least 30 Sprint mobile devices to be determined. There will be no additional charge to install, operate or maintain the equipment.
