HARRISON, N.Y. New recycling bins for old clothes and shoes could be on their way to Harrison at no cost if the Town Board agrees to a proposal at its meeting Thursday night.
The proposal comes from Rye Brook-based Textile Management Corp., which would provide collecting/recycling bins at the Harrison Police Department and at the Silver Lake lower parking lot.
The program comes with no costs, liability or hassle to your municipality, Textile Management CEO Ted Fisher said in a letter to Supervisor Ron Belmont on Aug. 29. Fishers company would be responsible for managing and maintaining the program, he said.
Harrison would receive $100 per month per location and would also be insured, Fisher said.
His target date to start the program is Sept. 15. If the Town Board agrees to the license agreement with Textile Management, it is still subject to review by the town's Law Department.
Before talking about that and several other proposals, Belmont will honor the 9- and 10-year-old Harrison All Star Softball team for its victorious run through the 2012 Little League District 20 All Star Championship Tournament. He will present the girls and their coaches with certificates of achievement at the beginning of the meeting.
Also on the agenda is an invitation from Gerry Salvo, superintendent of the Harrison Recreation Department, to Belmont, the Town Board members and all residents for the annual Its Great to Live in Harrison/Columbus Day Observance.
This years weekend celebration of Harrison will feature several events, including fireworks on Oct. 6, a car show on Oct. 7 and a parade followed by a festival on Oct. 8.
Once that is completed, the board has many requests to go over, such as one from the director of community services, Nina Marraccini. She is requesting authorization to accept an anonymous donation of $1,000 for the Harrison Food Pantry.
The meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Municipal Building, 1 Heineman Place.
