About 2 p.m. on Thursday, Rye police and firefighters as well Emergency Medial Services from Port Chester/Rye Brook were called to 754 Boston Post Road. (Route 1)
Upon arrival, it was discovered that the Hartsdale victim had been struck by a 2014 Caterpillar front-end loader, police said.
A 29-year-old male, whose name has not been released, was the operator of the front-end loader and exited the machine to inspect the construction area.
Upon exiting, he moved to the front area of the machine which then rolled forward pinning him against a concrete wall.
A second construction worker jumped into the machine and backed it away from the operator who then fell over the concrete wall and down a nine-foot shaft to a concrete floor, police said on Friday.
The operator suffered two broken legs, multiple cuts and bruises. The operator had to be extricated from the construction shaft after his condition was stabilized by EMS crew members.
Due to the extent of his injuries and the precarious position he fell, the rescue effort required the assistance of three agencies to get him to the ambulance.
The operator was transported by EMS to Westchester Medical Center where he was admitted to the Trauma Intensive Care Unit and was listed in critical condition on Friday, police said.
