Shortly before 7 a.m. on Thursday, 32-year-old tow-truck driver Salvator Brescia was tending to a disabled vehicle in the northbound lane on I-95 near exit 18B (White Plains/ Mamaroneck Avenue) when he was struck by a motorist that proceeded to speed off.
Brecia was transported to Greenwich Hospital, where he was pronounced dead Thursday morning.
The Yonkers resident was an employee of Vincent Service Towing in Mamaroneck, which handles calls on I-95. On the Vincent Service Facebook page, they celebrated Brecia’s life and mourned his death.
"The Vincent Service family mourns today for the loss of one of our own. Sal was not only an extremely talented and hard-working young man, but an incredible and invaluable friend and brother," the post read. "In a time like this, no words give much relief to the pain, but just know Sal's second family at Vincent Service will always hold him close to our hearts and be here to support those touched by the loss."
