A special 25th anniversary, starring George Harrison, Clapton, Ringo, Dave Edmunds, Carl Perkins and more

Clapton, Dave Edmunds (in his 2-tone shoes), Roseann Cash (nice harido), Geraint Watkins on the keys, Ringo, Slim Jim & Lee Rocker of the Stray Cats holding down the backbeat. And ALBERT LEE playin’ backup.

But the true revelation is George Harrison… Retired? Hardly… When Edmunds is relegated to FOURTH guitar, and Lee doesn’t make it off the bandstand, you’ve got some pickers up there.

Recorded 25 years ago at London’s Limehouse Studios, this was the All-Star shows to end all All-Star shows.

It‘s wild hearing and seeing Roseann doin’ her folks’ song with Perkins, who was the lead guitarist in her daddy’s band when she was a young’un. She’s evolved into a masterful singer-songwriter. But, like k.d. lang, she had her rockabilly period. And she made it work….

Roseann was no token or ornament. How cool the way she reworks Steve Forbert’s “What Kinda Guy”:

And at last, Edmunds gets to chip in on a vocal, from a Perkins song he recorded with Rockpile:

In the end, it was a coming-out party for Harrison, a collection worth keeping and cherishing, topped by one of his early Beatles rockers:

EDITOR’S NOTE
: Truth be told, there was ANOTHER night….another 25th anniversary… The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame concert 1988. We may never see a grouping like that again — and your publisher/editor was at the “Vote for Change” finale in D.C…. This time, it’s Jagger, Springsteen, Dylan, Joel, Harrison, Brian Wilson, Edmunds, LES PAUL, Ringo, Jeff Beck, John Fogerty, Peter Wolf… and YOKO, (did we miss anyone?)
