Mount Vernon resident Akeem Palmer, 23, was arraigned on a second-degree murder charge after a shooting on Sunday, April 26, Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino, Jr., said.
It is alleged that Palmer shot Ryan Solomon on Sunday afternoon at a South Third Avenue residence in Mount Vernon. Solomon suffered a wound to his torso but managed to call 911.
Scarpino said Solomon was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. Palmer attempted to flee the scene, but ultimately surrendered himself into the custody of the Mount Vernon Police Department on the night of the shooting.
Solomon was reportedly a taxi driver and acquaintance of Palmer's. The cause of the shooting was not immediately released by investigators.
Palmer was remanded into custody and scheduled for a felony hearing in Mount Vernon City Court next month.
