A Westchester man was arrested following an investigation into a lifetime of animal abuse involving a 4-year-old mini bull terrier.

The SPCA of Westchester’s Humane Law Enforcement Unit and Pound Ridge police arrested Pound Ridge resident Paul Paulino, 32, on Thursday, Dec. 5, after investigating allegations of animal abuse.

According to the SPCA of Westchester, on Thursday, Nov. 14, Pound Ridge Police Chief David Ryan enlisted the Humane Law Enforcement Unit when allegations were made that Lady, had been suffering from a lifetime of abuse.

The allegations include Lady being choked and lifted off the ground with a metal collar, having her nose rubbed into the concrete and being punched, kicked and struck with a leash.

Lady was taken into possession and brought to the SPCA of Westchester for medical treatment, where it was found that she is suffering from broken vertebrae in her neck.

An SPCA veterinarian said that the callus and thickening of the skin on her nose is consistent with it being rubbed on concrete. Marks on her body are further consistent with her being struck with a leash.

Paulino was arrested and charged with felony animal cruelty.

“It’s unimaginable that someone could do such a thing to a defenseless animal,” SPCA Executive Director Shannon Laukhuf said. “Lady is such a sweet, happy dog even after all she’s been through. We look forward to finding her the loving home that she deserves.”
