Wainwright To Perform Friday At Purchase College

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Rufus Wainwright and his band are set to perform at Purchase College on Friday night with special guests Teddy Thompson and Adam Cohen.

The Rhinebeck-based Wainwright started his tour Tuesday night in Vienna, Va., according to his website. He will also perform in Philadelphia on Wednesday before heading to the Performing Arts Center at Purchase.

Thompson, a British folk and rock musician, and Cohen, the lead singer for the British band, Low Millions, will also be performing.

In announcing the concert on their website, Purchase said it “has been an exciting year in the career” of Wainwright.

“His long-awaited opera "Prima Donna" opened at BAM in New York City on February 19th, followed by a music video shoot in London for the title track of his new album "Out of the Game,” said the website.

Wainwright and his producer, Mark Ronson, are proud of "Out of the Game."

“It’s the best work of my career,” said Ronson while Wainwright added that it is “the most pop album I’ve ever made,” the website said.

Wainwright will be promoting his new album on the "Late Show with David Letterman" Tuesday night performing “Jericho."

The 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. event at Purchase is co-presented by Tarrytown Music Hall and Music Without Borders. For tickets call (914) 251-6200 or visit the Arts Center website. Tickets are $57 and $74.
