HARRISON, N.Y. -- Metro-North said the person struck and killed on Thursday by a New York City-bound train was a 36-year-old male.

The victim's name has not been released pending identification and notification of family, officials said. The man was killed on a westbound track at the Harrison train station at 1:28 p.m. Electricity to the track was shut down as volunteer firefighters removed his body.

"We don’t have an ID at this time," Metro-North spokeswoman Nancy Gamerman said on Friday. "It appears that no criminality was involved. The investigation is active and ongoing."

Gamerman said it was too soon to say whether the person jumped onto the tracks or was walking on them as the commuter train approached.

Harrison Fire Department volunteers assisted at the scene. Harrison and Rye-Port Chester ambulances responded. Other local fire departments -- including Mamaroneck and Rye -- were put on standby until police completed an investigation at the train station off Halstead and Harrison avenues.

The fire department requested all tracks shut down in both directions, causing delays throughout the afternoon.
