HARRISON, N.Y. - A New Rochelle man was arrested by Harrison Police Friday after an anonymous phone call alleged he was taking shopping carts from the downtown A&P Supermarket parking lot.
Arduino Lisi, 73, was arrested for possession of stolen property and driving with a suspended license after police were notified via an anonymous caller reporting to have seen the man take carts from the 355 Halstead Ave. A&P. Police said Lisi claimed to be an employee of A&P and ShopRite supermarkets and collected carts at $5 each for the companies.
After receiving the anonymous tip, police said they watched Lisi drive his white box truck with red lettering near Halstead and Oakland avenues with unsecured shopping carts in the back of the vehicle. Police counted 14 carts in the truck, two of which belonged to A&P. Lisi said he collected the remaining carts from different areas in the Bronx.
Michael Bova of A&P management was notified by police and said they never authorized the removal of any shopping carts from the supermarket.
Lisi was also found by police to have suspended driving privileges in New York.
On his way to police headquarters, police said Lisi complained of chest pains, to which emergency medical workers arrived to transport him to White Plains Hospital. Lisi was processed at the hospital and released with a return court date of Nov. 29 at 9 a.m.
