Harrison Dance Classes Set For October

HARRISON, N.Y. – With September drawing to a close soon, the Harrison Department of Recreation has several programs planned for October, including dance classes.

“Dancing has been popular in all generations,” says the Harrison Recreation Department website. “It is a way to make new friends and move to upbeat music.”

The classes will teach ballroom, Latin, folk and several other styles of dancing. Participants will also “learn how different dance exercises help coordinate and strengthen your body in a way that is beneficial when participating in other sports and activities.”

The classes cost $160. The program schedule for children through adults is:

Tuesdays, Oct. 2 to Dec. 18 at the Sollazzo Center, 270 Harrison Ave., Harrison.

Grades 4-5 – 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. Grades 6-8 – 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. Grades 9-12 – 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. Adults – 7:30 to 8:15 p.m.

Tuesdays, Oct. 2 to Dec. 18 at the Veterans Memorial Building, 218 Halstead Ave., Harrison.

Grades 2-3 – 3:15 to 4 p.m.

Thursdays, Oct. 4 to Dec. 20 at the Leo Mintzer Center, 251 Underhill Ave., West Harrison.

Grades 2-3 – 3:30 to 4:15 p.m. Grades 4-5 – 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. Grades 6-8 – 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. Grades 9-12 – 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. Adults – 7:30 to 8:15 p.m.

All parents who register their children “must have a current 2012 ID card.” If you do not have one, “please be prepared to show proof of residency to obtain” one, the website said. That includes “a current utility bill and driver’s license for adults” and “a school report card or progress report for children.”
