Ron Belmont Congratulates Harrison Recreation Swim Team On Championship Win

HARRISON, N.Y. -- I would like to take this time to recognize the Harrison Recreation Swim Team. Recently, the team competed in the Division 6 Championship Meet and took first place.

The team also went undefeated this year and, as a result, will be moving to Division 5 for the 2016 season. According to Coach Dottie Klein, the team continues to grow in number and has become more competitive. Congratulations to the team, and Coach Klein, for a great season and good luck in the Conferences later this month.

Recently, our region has been under a heat advisory and I would like to remind residents of several ways to remain safe as temperatures soar. If possible, remain in doors and drink plenty of water. Keep blinds closed and shades drawn. It is very important that you do not leave anyone, including pets, in a parked car, even for a short period of time.

I would like to congratulate Harrison’s Andretta Cultural Society. I had the pleasure of attending their Grand Opening at their new location on Crotona Avenue. It was a wonderful celebration and I was happy to catch up with residents and old friends.

I’m very happy to report the following news concerning the library renovation: construction is almost complete, the walls have been painted, carpeting has been installed, and the furniture is beginning to arrive.

From the prominently displayed 55-inch flat screen TVs with video-game consoles, Mac computers, laptops with Adobe Creative Cloud, to touch- screen computers in the Children's Room, Harrison's new library is going to have an updated, state of the art feel. The Library’s book collection will also be re-installed and available to residents.

The library staff will be increasing the number of programs and will be hosting authors, academics, musicians, artists, and many types of performers for our community’s enjoyment and enrichment.

In closing, the next “Lunch with the Mayor” is on Friday, Aug. 7 and I will be at Butler Brother’s Market Place located at 295 Halstead Avenue in Downtown Harrison. I will be at this location from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. and look forward to meeting with residents and talking about issues facing our community.
