HARRISON, N.Y. -- New York Times bestselling author Tea Obreht will read from her novel "The Tiger's Wife" on the Manhattanville College campus in Purchase.

Obreht will begin the reading at 7 p.m., Thursday,  March 20, in the Castle on the Manhattanville College campus. The reading, sponsored by Manhattanville’s master of fine arts program in creative writing and visiting professor and author Alex Gilvarry, is free and open to the public.

Obreht’s novel won the 2011 Orange Prize for Fiction, and was hailed as one of the best books of the year by The Wall Street Journal, O: The Oprah Magazine, the Economist and Vogue, according to a release.

"Ms. Obreht’s novel takes place in a Balkan country mending from years of conflict into which Natalia, a young doctor, arrives on a mission of mercy at an orphanage by the sea," representatives said. "Superstition and secrets from the local community gather everywhere around her and intermingle with her own personal search for clues to her beloved grandfather’s inexplicable recent death."

Also reading will be visiting professor Alex Gilvarry, author of the novel "From the Memoirs of a Non-Enemy Combatant." Gilvarry’s work has recently appeared in The Paris Review, Vogue and on National Public Radio's "All Things Considered."
