HARRISON, N.Y. -- Hundreds of bicyclists will meet on the Purchase College campus on Sunday, Sept. 18, for the eighth annual Hudson Valley Bike Ride, raising funds for mental health, domestic violence and supportive housing programs.

The Jewish Board of Family and Children's Services hosts the event to raise funds in support of its programs that assist 43,000 New Yorkers of all religious, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds each year.

The event has a $700,000 goal, and it's already raised over $552,000, as of Thursday evening.

There are three different rides: 62 miles, which leaves at 7 a.m., 25 miles, which leaves at 9:30, and 10 miles, which leaves at 10:45. They all depart from Purchase College's Parking Lot W2, at 735 Anderson Hill Rd., in Purchase.

All the rides are physically difficult, because of the topography -- but also scenic. There are "evenly-spaced incredible rest stops with delicious food, as well as a fantastic finish line barbecue with live music and dancing," organizers note.

For more information, including routes and how to register, click here. If you can't make the ride, you can also sponsor a particular rider or team, or donate directly.

"For more than 140 years, the Jewish Board of Family and Children's Services has been helping New Yorkers realize their potential and live as independently as possible," organizers note.

"We promote resilience and recovery by addressing all aspects of an individual's life, including mental and physical health, family, employment and education."
