HARRISON, N.Y. Do you love living in Harrison? Then come out and celebrate during the town's 35th annual Its Great to Live in Harrison celebration in October.
Its a great weekend, said Harrison Recreation Department Supervisor Gerry Salvo. Its all about bringing the community together and having all these events its fun.
The events during the three-day celebration range from fireworks and a concert on Oct. 6 to a PBA car show Oct. 7, ending with the popular parade and festival on Oct. 8.
This year, Salvo focused on making the event more fun for teenagers, which means there will be carnival games and rides at the festival.
Were bringing in some new stuff this year in a sense of more for young teens inflatable rides for little kids even up till teenagers, he said before adding that the event will also probably feature jousting and a rock-climbing wall.
As recreation supervisor, Salvo coordinates the concert, fireworks, parade, and festival, which he said has not been easy.
Theres a lot of work to pull all these things together, so just along with my staff, piecing it together and it always gets done, he said. Its big, you get thousands of people to come. Im looking forward to it.
The Oct. 6-8 celebration has been advertised online, on the local cable channel, in banners around town, and through fliers at the schools, said Salvo.
He is most excited for the premier event, the parade, because the Police and Fire departments plus the Ambulance Corps all get involved.
The parade, which starts at 10 a.m., begins on Thatcher Avenue and goes down Halstead Avenue ending in front of Town Hall.
Saturday, Oct. 6
Open House at the Harrison Police Station (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) Concert in front of the West Harrison Firehouse (7 p.m.) Fireworks (subsequently following the concert)
Sunday, Oct. 7
PBA Car Show in the West Harrison business district (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) Monday, Oct. 8
Parade (10 a.m.) Festival at Riis Park (starts after the parade)
