Multi-Million Dollar Bid For For Cleanup Of Mount Vernon's Memorial Field Approved After years of bickering and debate, Mount Vernon officials may have finally come to an agreement to clean up and restore Memorial Field. This week, officials approved a $2.27 million plan to clean up contaminated dirt that was dumped at Memorial Field, a fraction of the originally expected cost. The city Board of Estimates voted 2-0 on Tuesday, Sept. 17 to accept a bid from Tully Environment for the cleanup efforts. Former Longtime White Plains Mayor Alfred Del Vecchio Dies At 95 White Plains' longest-serving mayor, Alfred Del Vecchio, has died. Del Vecchio died early on Wednesday, Dec. 5. Del Vecchio, who served four terms in office from 1976 to 1993, “guided the city through the process of urban renewal, which changed the face of the central business district,” current White Plains Mayor Thomas Roach said. As mayor, he oversaw the modernization of land use regulation in the city. Del Vecchio was an early advocate for the use of energy efficient technology.
