A 26-year-old fugitive wanted in connection with a shooting was tracked down and taken into custody after attempting to hide in Northern Westchester, police said. North Carolina resident Giovanni Wilson of Greenville was arrested in Peekskill on Friday, Jan. 12 after being tracked to a residence in the city, Westchester County Police announced on Wednesday, Jan. 17. Several Westchester County police officers have received awards for showing extreme bravery and ingenuity, including one who saved a shooting victim's life with a potato chip bag and several who survived a standoff while being repeatedly fired at. Barricaded Suspect Surrenders After Five-Hour White Plains Standoff
An attempt to serve a warrant in Westchester turned into a five-hour standoff when the man allegedly barricaded himself inside his home with a knife. The incident began around 5:45 a.m., Tuesday, April 27, when the Yonkers Police Department attempted to serve a warrant to Antonio Valez, age 43, of White Plains, said White Plains Public Safety Chief Joseph Castelli.
