A Hudson Valley woman is suing Kellogg's in a multimillion-dollar lawsuit alleging its "Whole Grain Frosted Strawberry" Pop-Tarts are deceiving consumers because they don't have enough strawberries. According to the lawsuit, Dutchess County resident Elizabeth Russett, who lives in Beacon, claims she and others in the class-action suit are owed damages of $5 million because the Strawberry Pop-Tarts she bought contained fewer strawberries than expected. Chemical In Some Breakfast Cereals Could Cause Cancer
Select oat cereals, granola and other food products may contain a pesticide that could cause cancer, according to a report released by the Environmental Working Group. Glyphosate, an herbicide linked to cancer by scientists in California and the World Health Organization was found in 43 of 45 samples of oat products in an independent test commissioned by the organization. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has issued a blunt warning on Thursday as a Salmonella outbreak involving a popular Kellogg's cereal has now infected 100 people in 33 states, with 30 hospitalizations. "Do not eat this cereal." A recall for Honey Smacks, a sweetened puffed wheat product, was issued last month for boxes with a “best if used by” date between June 14, 2018 and June 14, 2019. CDC Expands Recall Of Popular Kellogg's Cereal
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has expanded the recall of a popular Kellogg's cereal after an outbreak of Salmonella in 31 states, including New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. The recall of Honey Smacks cereal, which was issued last week, now includes any size package or “best if used by” date. The initial recall had been for 15.3 oz. and 23 oz. packages. A total of 73 people have been infected with the outbreak strain in 31 states, including 24 people who have been hospitalized. No deaths have been reported.
