Scam Alert: Suspect Demanding Payment For Missed Jury Duty, White Plains Police Warn
Authorities in Westchester are advising residents of a scam involving a suspect posing as law enforcement and demanding payment for missed jury duty. The scheme was announced on Friday, Jan. 12 by White Plains Public Safety, which said that the scams have been reported in other jurisdictions. New NY Law Would Allow Nursing Mothers To Delay Jury Duty
Can't get out of jury duty? Have a baby. That's not a joke. Nursing mothers may avoid jury duty in New York, thanks to state legislation passed this week in Albany by the Assembly and Senate. Women could delay jury duty for up to two years if they are breastfeeding a baby. If signed into law by Gov. Andrew Cuomo, as expected, nursing mothers would need to provide a doctor's note to postpone jury duty. Assemblyman Marcos Crespo, a Bronx Democrat, sponsored the bill.

Alert Issued For Suspicious Phone Calls Involving Police In Westchester
Police are investigating a series of suspicious calls to local residents that involved the caller posing as a law enforcement official. The New Rochelle Police Department released an alert after residents recently reported that the received phone calls from someone identifying themselves as a New Rochelle Police employee. Police said that the caller advised the recipient that they were to respond to New Rochelle Police Headquarters to answer an alleged ongoing civil matter, alleged crime or jury duty responsibility. The FBI and U.S. Marshals Service are warning Americans to be on alert following a recent rash of phony phone calls from opportunistic fraudsters. National law enforcement agencies issued an alert warning of several recent reports of imposter scams involving individuals claiming to be U.S. marshals, court officers, or other law enforcement officials.
