Three Underground Manhole Explosions Rock Part Of Southern Westchester Three underground manhole cover explosions rocked an area in Southern Westchester and left several buildings without power. The incident took place in the Fleetwood section of Mount Vernon around 11 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 11, on Gramatan Avenue off East Devonia with vibrations, across the area, said Mount Vernon Fire Deputy Chief Jim Lang. Busy Street, Construction Site Shut Down Due To Street Collapse In Westchester A busy street and bustling construction site are both temporarily closed in Westchester following a street collapse just outside the walls of the development. Broad Street was shut down between Fleetwood Avenue and Gramatan Avenue in Mount Vernon on Thursday afternoon, May 23 after an ambulate driver drove into it and got stuck. The hole developed just outside the 42 Broad Street development. Broad Street is expected to open at approximately noon on Friday, May 24, though it was unclear when construction will resume at the site as it is evaluated.
