The victim of a fatal house fire that broke out earlier this week in Westchester is being remembered as a popular teacher and former high school athlete. Roberto Eric Pallas was 33. The fire broke out in the Village of Mamaroneck at around noontime, Sunday, Nov. 7 in the basement at 518 Walnut St. A 2006 graduate of Rye Neck High School, where he played both tennis and basketball, he received a Bachelor’s degree from Hofstra University in 2010. Woman Involved In Westchester Crash Drove Drunk With 9-Month-Old In Car, Police Say
A woman was charged with felony DWI under Leandra's Law following a two-vehicle crash in Westchester. Sylvia Cortez, a 40-year-old resident of the Bronx, was arrested on Friday, June 19 by Village of Mamaroneck police following the crash which took place around 10:13 p.m. in the area of East Boston Post Road and North Barry Avenue. Upon interviewing Cortez, officers observed signs of alcohol intoxication and conducted a DWI investigation. Upon completion of the investigation, Cortez was placed under arrest, said Lt Mark Gatta. Plans For Proposed Auto Dealer In Stop & Shop Site In Westchester Put On Hold
Talks of a luxury auto dealership replacing a Stop & Shop location in Westchester has been temporarily tabled by officials following public outcry from the community. Last week, it was announced that the New Roc Stop & Shop on Harrison Street in New Rochelle will be closing next February, the company announced this week, and the New Rochelle City Council will now begin searching for a new business to replace it. With its legal issues behind it, Ralph’s Italian Ices & Ice Cream is set to make a grand return to Mamaroneck. Last year, owner Scott Rosenberg was forced to shut the doors on his shop on East Boston Post Road due to zoning discrepancies regarding the business. Ultimately, a State Supreme Court judge chose to dismiss his case against the village, where he sought $300,000 in damages after being told to close.
