Potentially Historic Storm: Parts Of NY Could See Up To 6 Feet Of Snow From 'Intense' System
A potentially historic, extreme storm that will bring intense snowfall and accumulation of 3 to 6 feet to parts of New York over a period of days has prompted Gov. Kathy Hochul to issue a State of Emergency for 11 counties in the state. The most significant snowfall is expected Thursday, Nov. 17, and Friday, Nov. 18, with accumulations of up to 3 feet of snow possible in the Buffalo area and up to 2 feet of snow possible in the Watertown area, with snowfall rates of 3 inches per hour, according to the National Weather Service. Alert Issued For Missing NY Man Now Believed To Be In Hudson Valley
A 56-year-old upstate New York man has gone missing and authorities are alerting the public they believe he is in the Hudson Valley. David C. Rasmussen was last seen on Wednesday, Aug. 24 in Tonawanda, New York, just outside of Buffalo. He is described as being 5-foot-7, 160 pounds with brown hair and green eyes. Friends and loved ones are mourning the death of a 39-year-old father of six who was killed in a three-vehicle crash in the Hudson Valley. Orange County resident Jeffrey Griffin, of Pine Bush, died Friday, Aug. 19, from injuries sustained in a wreck that occurred in the Town of Crawford, police said. Author Salman Rushdie Violently Attacked, Stabbed On Stage In New York
This story has been updated Author Salman Rushdie was stabbed on stage at a speaking engagement in upstate New York, according to state police. The violent attack happened at around 10:45 a.m. Friday, Aug. 12, as Rushdie was about to begin lecturing at the Chautauqua Institution in Chautauqua, located about 70 miles south of Buffalo. New Yorkers hoping to carry concealed handguns will soon have to share their social media accounts as part of a more stringent application process under a new state law. In the wake of multiple mass shootings across the country, elected officials in Westchester took steps to help curtail the sale of potentially dangerous weapons in the county.
