Alum To Return As New Rochelle High School Principal
A familiar face is heading back to Westchester to take over at his hometown high school. Thirty-two years after receiving his diploma from New Rochelle High School, Adofo Muhammad is returning as principal, the same place he, his mother, grandmother and children graduated. “That’s mind-boggling to me,” Muhammad said. “This is the culmination of my career, (it’s) a tremendous responsibility. Days after the school superintendent in the Westchester city at the epicenter of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak reported she was diagnosed positive, the district’s Board of Education president has tested negative. The school superintendent in the city in Westchester that has been at the epicenter of the novel coronavirus pandemic has tested positive for COVID-19. New Rochelle City School District Superintendent Dr. Laura Feijoo said she received the results at 10:20 a.m. Saturday, March 21. She was tested on Monday, March 16.Her quarantine period is two weeks since the latter date, she said. New Rochelle Schools Add Holiday To Calendar Celebrating Muslim Culture
Students in New Rochelle will see a new holiday on the school calendar next year, as the Board of Education added the Islamic celebration of Eid al-Fitr. The Board announced that it would be adding the holiday - which marks the end of Ramadan - which will be observed on June 5 next year, and schools will be closed. Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, the holy month of fasting, and falls on the first day of Shawwal, the 10th month of the Islamic calendar.
