Second Half Surge Lifts Irvington Over Hastings

HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Irvington boys lacrosse team found itself on both ends of the field in the second half Wednesday, outscoring Hastings 7-3 in the third and fourth quarters en route to a 10-6 victory.

Sam Winton led the Bulldogs with three goals and Siggy Bereday and Ranor Devlin each added two goals in the lopsided second half.

“We didn’t think we should be tied at the half and stepped it up and played more aggressively in the second half,” Irvington’s Sam Winton said. “Once we get on a roll and are focused we play much better. The defense and our goalie (Philip Roy) did a great job stopping Hastings.”

Philip Roy stopped 18 shots and was the deciding factor behind a tough Bulldogs defense.

“The defense played really well in the second half and we moved the ball up the field better,” Roy said. “I try to have the defense keep people away from the crease (goal area) and get a clear look at where the ball is. I think we can keep improving the defense and the offense as the season goes on.”

Corey Devlin was a key playmaker for the Bulldogs, scoring once and assisting on four other goals.
