Vano and the team were connected through Team IMPACT, whose mission is to improve the quality of life for children facing life-threatening and chronic illnesses by establishing and expanding vibrant team-based support networks. In December 2014, Vano was diagnosed with Stage 3 diffuse large B cell lymphoma and underwent intense chemotherapy treatments to fight this disease. Vamo met the team in the VIP Room of the Goldstein Health, Fitness and Recreation Center on Sunday night where she was welcomed by Director of Athletics Mark Brown, the Pace women's soccer coaching staff along with the members of the women's soccer team as well as the women's volleyball and field hockey teams.
After welcoming Julianna to the team, Brown invited her to sign her letter to join the squad and Associate Head Coach Eddie Evans presented her with a Pace Soccer game jersey as well as a practice shirt. The event was live streamed on the Pace Athletics website via Stretch Internet and the family was invited to take a group photo with the team ambassadors.
