WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. Junior pitcher James Decker allowed six hits and two runs over six innings Wednesday, and the Archbishop Stepinac baseball team slipped past Cardinal Hayes (Bronx) 4-3 in a Catholic High School Athletic Association game on the new turf field on the Stepinac campus.
Sophomore Frankie Giuliano ended the game with a bases-loaded walk-off base hit in the bottom of the seventh inning that snapped a 3-3 tie.
Decker struck out four and walked just one batter, and reliever Skylar Mercado picked up the win with an inning of relief, as the Crusaders (2-0) won their second straight to begin the season.
Junior Daniel Hoffers pinch-hit double in the sixth inning tied the game at 3-3. Mercado had two hits and sophomore Joe Signore drove in a run for the Crusaders.
