"Thank you all for your support today," Wilantowicz posted at 4:35 p.m. "It was great to get back and run in Boston again. The spirit of Boston and the Boston Marathon has not been broken."

Wilantowicz said the marathoners ran in memory and honor of the innocent victims of last year's attacks.

"On a personal level, I also have dedicated this race in the memory of all those that we have lost this past year, especially Shay; and in honor of my mother who has helped me be the person I am today. There are so many ways to describe the Boston Marathon, but put simply...what a great event. Thanks again everyone. It really does mean so much."

The 42-year-old runner completed the race in a time of 3:08.01, just 20 seconds off last year's effort of 3:07.41.
