ARDSLEY, N.Y. --  Stuart Horlacher has been appointed principal of Ardsley Middle School by the Ardsley Board of Education, the district recently announced. His appointment will be effective July 1, 2017.

He will replace JoAnne Januzzi who has been interim principal for the last two years.

Horlacher, currently assistant principal at Ardsley Middle School, has been with the Ardsley Union Free School District since 2001.

During his tenure with the district, he served as a physics teacher at Ardsley High School and as an administrative intern in which he worked closely with the leadership team on initiatives, including teacher observations, school building management, scheduling, staff development and strategic planning.

Horlacher began his educational career in science at Cardinal Spellman High School after working in the financial services sector and serving in the United States Marine Corps.

“I am very excited that Stu will advance his role to principal of Ardsley Middle School," said Dr. Lauren Allan, superintendent of schools. "As assistant principal, Stu has proven his ability as an educational leader and has built strong relationships with students, parents and staff. I am confident that our learning community will enjoy a seamless transition as we begin our search for a new assistant principal.”

Horlacher shared his thoughts on his new job:

“I have had the honor of being part of the Ardsley learning community for the past 16 years," he said. "I am looking forward to my new role and doing everything I can to contribute to the ongoing success of our district and our students."

Horlacher holds a Bachelor of Arts in Biological Science  from the University of Delaware, a master's degree in Education from the University of Bridgeport and a Professional Diploma in Educational Leadership from Manhattanville College.

He resides in Yorktown Heights with his wife, fifth-grade grade son and third-grade daughter.
