ELMSFORD, N.Y. --The Elmsford Union Free School District will partner with the ANDRUS School-Based Mental Health Program to provide social and emotional health screenings and possible services through the organization’s S.E.E.D. (Social and Emotional Enrichment and Development) initiative.

The partnership, which will begin in the spring, will make confidential in-school screenings, supports and services by ANDRUS professionals available to students at Alexander Hamilton Jr. Sr. High School. With parental permission, students in need will be able to receive certain services and supports discreetly at their home school rather than traveling to secure outside assistance.

If needed, clinicians from the White Plains-based non-profit will work with caregivers and children to develop appropriate treatment plans, including individual therapy sessions for students. ANDRUS will work with parents/caregivers and with teachers to help address any concerns at home and in school. Family therapy sessions will also be available through the partnership. According to statistics from the National Institute for Mental Health, approximately 20 percent of children ages 13-18 live with a mental health condition.

“This is a startling statistic, and while we know that mental illness does not affect everyone, we believe that providing on-site resources for any student in need is a tremendous asset to the district,” said Superintendent Joseph Ricca. “We are thrilled to have established this special partnership with ANDRUS and we are hopeful that these services will go a long way toward helping children and families who may be need in the comfort of a familiar setting.”
