Rockland County Man Survives Tappan Zee Jump

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. - A Rockland County man was taken to the hospital after surviving a 30-foot plunge from the Tappan Zee Bridge early Saturday morning.

Tarrytown State Police said the 30-year-old man was pulled from the water by Nyack firefighters around 3:30 a.m. after he jumped into the Hudson River from the south side of the causeway.

Police said the man was taken to Nyack Hospital but they were not aware of any major injuries sustained.

Saturday morning’s jump was the second this month.  On June 8, a Yonkers woman was grabbed by an off-duty Tarrytown police sergeant and a trio of off-duty New York City police officers, stopping her from jumping to an almost certain death.

A month earlier, a 55-year-old New Rochelle man also threatened to jump off the bridge but was talked down by police. In April, Dominic Dimele, a 21-year old Mount Vernon man, jumped from the bridge to his death.
