GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- Two Greenburgh police officers were injured and sent to the hospital following a confrontation and foot chase on Wednesday of a suspect wanted on drug charges.

The officers were injured during a surveillance by members of the Greenburgh Street Crime Unit outside of the Alexander Motel at 542 Tarrytown Road, Greenburgh Police said.

During the surveillance, officers watched as a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse drove into the parking lot. The female driver, Magaly Hernandez, and the front-seat passenger, Wilson Miller, remained in the vehicle for a short time smoking marijuana, said Greenburgh PD Sgt. Ed Olson.

As officers approached, and attempted to remove Miller from the vehicle, a violent struggle ensued, Olson said. As Wilson stepped out of the vehicle, he intentionally dropped one plastic twist of crack cocaine and tried to conceal it with his foot. A Greenburgh detective observed the action and attempted to place Miller under arrest, Olson said.

Olson said that's when Miller, 26, assaulted the detective, striking him with his elbow and knocking the detective backwards, before trying to escape by running towards Tarrytown Road.

Patrol officers were able to tackle Miller as he fled, but instead of stopping, Miller began punching both officers, Olson said. Another violent struggle ensued until the officers were able to gain control of Miller and place him in handcuffs, according to Olson.

Miller, of Elmsford, was charged with assault, criminal possession of drugs with intent to sell, possession of drugs and resisting arrest. He was transported to the Westchester Medical Center emergency room and released to police after receiving treatment. He is being held at the Westchester County Jail.

Hernandez, 25, of 59 Old Mamaroneck Road, White Plains, was charged with possession of marijuana and driving without a license. She was released on her own recognizance.

Delia and Distefano were also transported to Westchester Medical Center to be treated for injuries.
