The Bronx men are now suspects in a wider investigation of larcenies from vehicles and cars stolen throughout Westchester County, police said on Thursday.
Naquan Johnson, 19, and Jose Canales, 20, both of 658 East 234st St. in the Bronx, were charged with third-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a felony, and held pending arraignment in the Bronx, police said.
Members of the Greenburgh Police Street Crime Unit completed the initial investigation Thursday into multiple larcenies from vehicles and stolen vehicles throughout the Town of Greenburgh.
Greenburgh police focused on one homeowner's complaint about two parked vehicles being stolen overnight near Clements Place and Shaw Place, in the hamlet of Hartsdale.
Police canvassing the Hartsdale neighborhood located a Jeep Grand Cherokee previously reported stolen from Yonkers. A joint investigation by Greenburgh and Yonkers police located both of the vehicles reported stolen from 25 Shaw Place in Hartsdale within the Bronx, police said.
Members of the Greenburgh Street Crime Unit joined New York City police from the 47th Precinct in a surveillance operation of the stolen vehicles, which were parked in the Bronx, police said.
About 5 p.m. on Tuesday, police officers observed two men enter the stolen vehicles. A foot pursuit ensued through the streets and on rooftops of the 47th Precinct, police said. Both suspects were eventually caught with help from New York Anti-Crime police officers and the Greenburgh Street Crime Unit.
An investigation continues into whether the two charged suspects were involved in other thefts from vehicles and cars reported stolen from other communities in Westchester, according to Greenburgh police.
