The driver of one of the vehicles was injured and taken to Westchester Medical Center while a passenger in the same vehicle was killed in the two-vehicle accident around 4 p.m. Sunday, state police said. Names and residences were withheld Sunday pending notification of next of kin.

The southbound lanes of the Sprain Brook Parkway were closed just north of Jackson Avenue at 4 p.m., but the left lane re-opened at 7:30 p.m., state police said. The lanes were set to be closed for "a few more hours" while state police continued the investigation into the accident, representatives said Sunday evening.

The accident remains under investigation but state police representatives said they hoped to have more information early Monday.
