The state legislature's approval late last month of a measure to name the new Tappan Zee Bridge after former Gov. Mario Cuomo drew much reaction after Cuomo's son, current Gov. Andrew Cuomo, proposed the name change.

While naming the bridge after a politician may not be so popular in the Hudson Valley, how about naming the bikeway and walkway on the new bridge after a musician.

Greenburgh Supervisor Paul Feiner thinks it's a great idea and is proposing it.

Feiner wants to name the bikeway/walkway after Pete Seeger, a native of Patterson in Putnam County who was an American folk singer and social activist who actively fought against pollution in the Hudson River.

Feiner notes Seeger "worked hard to focus public attention on a cleaner Hudson River."

"I also would like to suggest that the state consider creating an outdoor environmental museum along the three mile bridge -- featuring environmental exhibits that pedestrians and cyclists could benefit from.," Feiner said.
