WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. As a concert pianist, Sara Faust continuously searched for the perfect piano, one that sounded just right. Each one she bought would be sold to purchase a newer one, like stepping stones on the way to her flawless musical instrument.
Now, years later, Faust owns hundreds of pianos and has a 24,000 square-foot building to house them. Faust Harrison Pianos, on the border of White Plains and Greenburgh, will celebrate its grand opening on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
"I'm thrilled to be opening here in White Plains," said Faust. "This has been a life-long dream."
In the mid-1980s, Faust's search for the perfect piano continued when she moved to Irvington. She and her husband, Irving gutted their side house and acquired and restored pianos. As their business grew, they moved to a larger factory showroom in Dobbs Ferry in the late 1980s.
From years of playing, Faust understands what makes a great piano, and she said she prides herself and her staff on maintaining a high level of design, performance and condition.
"What's really important is the parts that go into it and the people who do the work," said Faust. "You can't have one person who is good at everything, so we have departments that specialize."
Faust Harrison Pianos carries Steinway, Yamaha, Bechstein and Mason & Hamlin, among other brands, they also have trade-ins that have been restored.
Faust Harrison Pianos is located at 214 Central Ave., around the corner from the City Limits Diner.
