HARTSDALE, N.Y. - Town of Greenburgh Police Detective Wayne Papovitch and his retired canine partner Patriot were honored Sunday at the Hartsdale Pet Cemetery’s 24th Annual War Dog Memorial Celebration. Dozens of pet owners and their pets attended the ceremonies and Pet Adoption Day sponsored by the volunteers at Pet Rescue from Larchmont. Papovich and Patriot, who have responded to more than 1400 K9 related calls over their eight-year career together, were on hand with Papovich offering the keynote address. The crime-fighting duo handled more than 175 investigations a year over Patriot's career. Patriot was cited for his ability to subdue suspects after tracking them through Westchester communities. Hartsdale’s War Dog Memorial is designated a landmark by the Westchester County's Office of Tourism and is listed in the Art Inventories Catalog of the Smithsonian.
