Greenburgh Police Say Teen Fled on Dirt Bike

GREENBURGH, N.Y. – An Ossining teen was arrested after he allegedly led police on a high-speed chase while riding his dirt bike in Elmsford.

Greenburgh police charged Derick Espinal, 19, with third-degree unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, both misdemeanors, as well as reckless driving, a violation, after a traffic stop at 4:20 p.m. March 4.

Police said an officer on patrol saw Espinal driving a green and white Kawasaki dirt bike in the Payne Street area without license plates or a helmet.

When the officer attempted to pull Espinal over, the teen increased his speed to more than 45 mph above the speed limit, in the process committing several violations of vehicle and traffic laws, police said.

Espinal ignored verbal commands to stop before fleeing on the Croton Aqueduct, police said.  Once he was apprehended, a Department of Motor Vehicles check revealed that his driver’s license had been suspended for failure to answer a summons.
