Greenburgh Looking For Volunteer To Join Conservation Advisory Council

GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- Taking care of the land and waters around Greenburgh is a big job and those who make sure it happens are the many volunteers with the Conservation Advisory Council.

Currently, the organization is looking for a volunteer to serve on the council, whose seven members live in unincorporated Greenburgh.

In the past year, the council has worked on everything from reviewing 11 wetlands applications to approving and reviewing tree removal applications to the study of comprehensive plans that included such issues as water runoff and wildlife impacts, as well as conducting a study of plastic bags on the environment.

The council also makes recommendations on applications for permits to disturb wetlands or watercourses and their associated buffers. Current projects include an ongoing review of development projects, a study assessing the negative impacts of noise, developing legislation to redirect edible food waste, recommendations to improve air quality and gathering community support for updating the town’s tree law.

The group usually meets at 6:30 p.m. the second and fourth Thursdays of each month, except August at Town Hall. Anyone interested in serving on the board should contact, Patricia Arpaia in the planning department at 989-1538.
