After the Greenburgh Central 7 districts budget was defeated by a narrow margin last week, a revote is scheduled for June 21.
The district will vote to enact the same budget as this school year, $57.4 million. Its passing should ensure that no changes will be made to school facilities and current staffing and school amenities will continue.
You cant do it any better than what we did, said Superintendent Ronald Smalls. Youre able to sustain programs and services, while at the same time not have any reductions enforced.
However, if the budget does not pass in Junes revote, the schools will not be able to buy new equipment and will be forced to suspend upcoming programs, such as upgrading the phone system, transportation home for children following after-school clubs, and renovations to the library.
Im cautiously optimistic, said Smalls. You cant change a no vote to a yes vote. Thats not going to happen. So the idea is to get more people out. We have to get up and vote.
In the May 17 election, there were roughly 100 voters less than there were last year. This might have been caused by the rainy weather on voting day, said Smalls. Nonetheless, he encourages residents to support the school district and continue to provide Greenburgh students with a quality education.
The revote will take place on June 21 from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Woodlands High School, located at 475 West Hartsdale Avenue.
