The county is seeking proposals from the private sector to convert the building to some public use.
Tourist information about Westchester could also be shared at the site, according to Feiner.
Macy Park is close to the South County bicycle trail and a short walk to the lake at Macy Park. A boathouse, bike rental shop and a small café would be an attractive addition and would encourage people to enjoy one of the region's most attractive assets, according to Feiner.
Perhaps, if nonmotorized boating is a success at Macy Park it would encourage the county to drop its opposition to plans to allow Sprain Lake to also be used for nonmotorized boats, Feiner said. Nonmotorized boats are allowed in Central Park.
In addition, using the building for a park-related purpose would remind developers, public officials and the community that the nearby Saw Mill River Parkway should not become another Central Avenue with over development. The parkway's picturesque landscape must be preserved, Feiner said.
