Edgemont School Superintendent Regrets Grad Death

EDGEMONT, N.Y. — The death of Charles McCarthy was received with sadness at the Edgemont High School, the school’s superintendent Nancy Taddiken, said in an email.

“He was well liked by his peers and by the faculty,” she said. McCarthy, 20, a graduate from the Class 2010, was found dead Wednesday afternoon on a front lawn in Ardsley, dressed only in a T-shirt, boxer shorts and slippers. The homeowner called police after discovering the body.

The Westchester County Medical Examiner performed an autopsy on MacCarthy’s body, which had no obvious signs of violence, but couldn't yet determine the death cause, pending toxicology reports. Ardsley police said it doesn’t believe the death is crime related, but the department is still investigating.

Some Edgemont students close to Mccarthy didn’t attend the school Friday, a member of the staff said. “The Edgemont school community is a small close-knit group of individuals who develop strong relationships,” Taddiken said. “Charlie did just that.”
