GREENBURGH, N.Y. Voters in Westchester County's District 8 will be asked to elect their County Legislator on Nov. 8. Current County Legislator Alfreda Williams is running unopposed.
Williams is serving her first term in the Westchester County Board of Legislators as a Democrat, where she represents the approximately 54,000 residents of Greenburgh, Elmsford, Tarrytown, Sleepy Hollow and parts of White Plains.
County Legislators serve two-year terms, with a term limit of six consecutive terms. Elections take place during odd-numbered years.
County Legislators receive a salary of $49,200 a year. The Westchester County Code prohibits County Legislators from holding any other salaried or elected public office during their tenures.
Williams holds a bachelor's degree from Queens College, City University of New York and a master's degree from Teachers College, Columbia University.
She has been a Greenburgh resident since 1974, serving as the Greenburgh Town Clerk between 1994 and 2007.
Williams has also previously worked with the New York State Education Department, the New York State Department of Labor, Mount Sinai Medical Center and Columbia University Medical Center.
During her time with the Board of Legislators, Williams has served as Chair of the Community Services Committee. She also serves on the Generational, Cultural and Ethnic Diversity Committee; the Government Reform, Efficiency and Savings Committee; the Housing, Planning and Operations Committee; the Legislation Committee; and the Public Works, Parks, Labor and Transportation Committee.
