ARDSLEY, N.Y. A 10-year-old boy fell into his neighbors well Friday evening on Lincoln Avenue.
The boy and five other kids were playing with a ball when it strayed over some pieces of rotten wood on the neighbors yard. Unaware that there was a well underneath the wood, the boy stepped on it and fell 15 to 20 feet to the bottom, said Richard Goldstein, a friend of the boys parents and also an Ardsley resident.
Goldstein, who was with his family visiting his friends, said that the two couples were at the dinner table when the accident happened, at around 6 p.m., he said.
One of the kids came running and saying that he has fallen in the hole, Goldstein said. We were like, What?
They all rushed to the neighbors yard to find the boy down the well, scared but conscious.
I could barely make him out, but I could hear him, Goldstein said. His head was above water. Thats all I was concerned about.
He said that the police arrived five minutes after the boys parents called 911.
And less than five minutes after, the fire department was here, Goldstein said, mentioning that the firefighters first threw the boy a safety vest attached to a rope and then lowered a 20 feet extension ladder into the well, so that he could climb out.
Goldstein said that the boy left the well wet and scared, and that the first thing he said was, I am ok, mommy.
The boy was taken to the Westchester Medical Center at Valhalla.
The preliminary tests showed that he has no injury, Goldstein said.
The boys parents were in the hospital with him and could not be reached as of Friday night.
