Sleepy Hollow Hunts For Eggs

SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. — It was an egg-cellent day for Sleepy Hollow’s sweet-tooths.

Dozens of children scoured Douglas Park on Saturday during the village’s Easter egg hunt, turning over rocks, scanning the grass and hunting for the elusive plastic eggs.

“It was awesome,” said Tarrytown resident Brad Scheller, watching his two sons inspect their candy baskets. “There were hundreds of eggs. They loved it.”

Just after 11 a.m., children were set loose in the Gory Brook Road park as the hunt began. Less than 20 minutes later, all the eggs were accounted for.

Some families headed home to dig into their candy scores while others stuck around for goody bags filled with toys and even more candy. A long line formed in the park as the children waited eagerly to pose for pictures with the Easter Bunny.

Now in his second visit to the Sleepy Hollow hunt, Dennis Wong said it was well worth the trip from Irvington.

His three children “love to have their picture taken with the bunny — and clearly, the candy as well,” he said, pointing to the happy hunters clutching their candy baskets.

After organizing the event for the past 15 years, village Recreation Director Robin Pell said it has always seen a big turnout.

The best part for her?

“The little ones and seeing how excited they all are,” said Pell.

Even after the egg hunt was over and the Easter Bunny had gone, parents stuck around, enjoying a sun-splashed afternoon in the park.

“It’s easy to entertain the kids here, with the park and swings,” said Ray McGuire of Sleepy Hollow. “It was a really good event all around.”
